Day One is here!

Today is Day one/Week 16 of my marathon training plan. Although I consider this my first day of my plan, it is by no means the beginning of my preparation.

Since the end of November 2009 I've built up from running 4km around the block (and finding that difficult) to running 21km and feeling that same perceived effort. I've generally been running 4 times a week (supplemented with my recreational hobbies), and gradually increasing my weekly milage each week. I jumped up my mileage very quickly when I first started training, and paid for it with a knee injury. Since then I've done a bit of research and realised the importance of building up very gradually. I also make sure I slot in an 'easy' week every few weeks to give my legs a break. Have a look at my training logs if you're interested.

I've recently completed a half marathon (Busselton Half) which was my benchmark of progress and left me feeling confident about the way I am training and how I've progressed so far.

With pride, I can say I now consider myself a runner, and even have the worn shoes and black toenails to prove it! (Eww!)

I've read several books on marathon running, and explored physical and mental training methods that were completely new to me. Check out the Training section which is where I'll share and review some of the techniques and strategies that I've been using.

It's been an interesting journey to just get to the point where I am now ready to start my Marathon training plan, and I am filled with fear and excitement as I move to the next phase of my journey. I hope you will continue to visit my site and share some of my experiences over the coming months.
